Join us as a Wildlife Veterinary Volunteer

We offer veterinary professionals and students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in wildlife care. Volunteers work alongside our veterinary team, assisting with medical treatments, health checks, routine exams, animal welfare observations, and much more. This program provides invaluable insight into wildlife medicine and conservation in Laos while contributing directly to the well-being of endangered species.

Our Veterinary Volunteer Experience:

Flexibility, Learning and Local Empowerment

As a veterinary volunteer, your day can change in an instant. You might be performing routine fecal exams when you’re suddenly called to assess a lethargic resident or prepare for an intake exam on an unexpected rescue. Working in our wildlife hospital keeps you on your toes, so flexibility and adaptability are essential!

It’s nearly impossible to predict a set timeline for your day, as no two are alike. We can guarantee that whether you’re assisting with surgery, conducting routine exams, or entering medical data into ZIMS, your contributions to LCTW are invaluable.

We take great pride in fostering professional development and empowering local Lao professionals. There may be days when our expat veterinarian is unavailable, and our local veterinarian takes the lead. These instances provide unique learning opportunities for you to further develop communication and teamwork skills while supporting our mission to elevate local expertise in wildlife care.

We also believe that understanding the animals’ husbandry is key to effective veterinary care. That’s why one day a week, you’ll work with our husbandry team, learning how to care for the animals, recognizing their unique personalities, and understanding how proper husbandry can help prevent illness and disease.
